Is your honey raw?

Our honeys are all unpasteurised and coarse filtered to retain pollens. Our honey is never warmed above 30C – this is below the temperature that the honey can naturally reach within a hive and, therefore, will not have any impact on the active ingredients in the honey. Raw is a term that has been used to describe honey that is unpasteurised and only coarse filtered but trading standards have now ruled no honey company can use the term, so we use the term "Unpasteurised" which has the same meaning.

Why has my honey gone hard / crystallised?

Crystallisation is a natural process and is a sign that the honey is pure and unpasteurised. Different batches will solidify at different speeds depending on which flowers the nectar in the honey has been collected from. The honey is perfectly safe to eat. If you prefer your honey runny, it can easily be made runny again by gently heating it in a saucepan of warm water.

Is honey safe for infants?

Honey is not suitable for infants under 12 months of age.

How should honey be stored?

Honey should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight.

Will my honey go off?

No. Due to regulations, we must add a best before date, but remember that is not a "use by date" In fact, archaeologists have often found honey in Egyptian tombs. This honey is thousands of years old and still edible!

Honey is a by-product of bees, so suitability is down to individual preference.

What's the difference between clear and soft set honey?

All honey naturally sets or crystallises over time. This is a sign of its purity. All honey taken straight from the hive is naturally clear and runny. To soft set our honey, we "seed" a batch of our clear honey with a small amount of previously set honey. This process encourages crystals to grow and, over the course of a couple of weeks, the batch becomes soft set. The seed honey we use for this has been specially selected because it is a smooth soft honey. This controlled process causes the rest of the batch to take on the same consistency as the seed. Ultimately, this creates a dripless soft set honey which is ideal for spreading. Rest assured, our soft set is still unpasteurised and retains all the natural goodness and properties of our clear honey.
